has addressed the backlash over her winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 60th Grammy Awards ceremony that took place on Sunday evening.

After Alessia was announced as the winner, there was a bit of backlash online as her award was met with quite a bit of criticism. The criticism focused on people not seeing Alessia as a ‘new artist’, thus should never have been included in the category. However, Alessia has responded to the backlash today in a lengthy Instagram post.

Taking to Instagram, the singer said that she had “no control over” winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, but she did and she is not going to let the criticism take away from her achieving something she’s always wanted to achieve.

“I didn’t log onto and submit myself. That’s not how it works. I didn’t ask to be submitted either because there are other artists that deserve the acknowledgement, but I was nominated and won and I am not going to be upset about something I’ve wanted since I was a kid, not to mention worked really hard for,” the singer wrote.

She went on to add that she is very much aware of the fact that her “music wasn’t released yesterday”, but her “music has become fairly popular in the last year”.

“I will not let everything I’ve worked for be diminished by people taking offence to my accomplishments and feeling the need to tell me how much I suck,” the star added.

Whilst winning a Grammy Award is possibly up there on every artists list of Achievements, and is meant to be one of the highlights of your music career, sadly, has had to deal with online abuse over it.
