returned this evening with the second episode of the series, and what an episode it has been. series 7 is shaping up to be one hell of a series.

Whilst it may have been switcheroo on the panel this year, one thing that has not changed is the amount of amazing talent auditioning or the show. Earlier this evening we reported that Kade Smith, Ivy Paige, and Belle Voci all made it through to the Battle Rounds, but who else will be joining them?

Age: 29 // Occupation: Musician // Location: Redcar

Next up to impress the coaches this evening is 29-year-old from Redcar. He originally auditioned for the show last year but he didn’t get any turns for the coaches. At the end of his audition, Jamie said that sometimes when you realise you’re not good enough to do something, you try something else, and he felt that was the day to give up singing. However, thankfully he did not give up the singing as he came back to the show this year to give it another shot.

In his VT this evening, Jamie said: “I was on the show last year. I sang Never Ever by All Saints. I feel like I put a bit too much pressure on myself as I was so desperate for a turn. That was my shot, I was meant to own it, but it got the better of me. When it ended and I realised nobody had turned, I was so upset. I did think about quitting music. I was so unhappy with myself; I spent a week in bed eating chocolate. My girlfriend Steph picked me back up. She is the reason I  am still doing music”.

For his audition, Jamie decided to perform a cover of Rise Up by Andra Day, and what a song that is. It’s not easy for anyone to take on such a flawless song, but Jamie managed it. Stood on the stage with his guitar, he slowed the song down ever so slightly in parts, but he did a very good job of it.

Olly Murs hit his button and turned, as did Tom Jones, which of course meant that Jamie definitely had a place on the show this year.

Here’s what the coaches had to say:

  • Will.i.am: “Hats off – it takes so much grit and gut to come back on a show when you didn’t get tuns last time. Not many people are that brave”.
  • Tom Jones: “I loved it. You have a great edge to your voice, a great tone – you don’t sound like anyone else. I was with you all the way through that song, so I hope you can come with me. I know what you need”.
  • Olly Murs: “I just want you to know that if I’d heard that version last year I’d have hit the button. That song is a really tough song. It really hit me and I just connected with you. I got rejected twice and I know how much courage that takes”.

In the end Jamie had a tough decision to make, but he decided to go with TEAM OLLY!

Age: 20 // Occupation: Unemployed // Location: Sheffield

The final contestant to perform on the show this evening was Lucy Millburn. She is a 29-year-old singer from Sheffield. Lucy is currently working in an admin job that she says she doesn’t want to do forever. She has been singing for years, and she knows that this opportunity could change her life.

In her VT this evening, Lucy said: “My job entails a lot of admin, bouncing back emails, and It’s not what I want to do forever. I live with my mum and dad, he is my biggest supporter. My dad is roadie / manager /agent all thrown into one. I wouldn’t be able to do it without him. Whenever I sing, as cheesy as it sounds, you’re flying. Its like you’re sat on top of that note, and it feels like you could shoot light out of the end of your fingers.

“There have been times where I have been singing to four men in a working mens club and nobody cares whatsoever and I don’t want to do that anymore. This audition is potentially life changing for me. I can’t put into words how big this opportunity is”.

For her performance, Lucy went with Colorblind by the absolutely amazing Amber Riley. We have to say that not many people can take on Amber Riley when it comes to her voice, her range, and her ability, but Lucy gave it a good attempt. Her voice just soars when she sings – she has such a strong, fantastic voice that really cuts through. Lucy certainly has a very, very powerful instrument when it comes to her voice. We’re excited to see how she will do.

All four coaches turned around for Lucy, giving her a very big decision to make.

Here’s what the coaches had to say:

  • Will.i.am: “I have been on this show for a while and I have never heard Tom say that. I would love for you to be on my team”.
  • Jennifer Hudson: “That was simply beautiful. You had your moment and you took us with you. It was very captivating.
  • Tom Jones: “You have a beautiful voice and a beautiful way of expressing yourself. If you don’t come with me, I am leaving right now”.
  • Olly Murs: “It was absolutely stunning. I would love you on my team. I could hear that on the radio, it was stunning, it was brilliant”.

Lucy decided to go with TEAM TOM!
