Ridley Scott‘s Alien prequel, Prometheus, has had a more than adequate opening weekend, beating off rivals by a huge margin.

Prometheus, which stars The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo‘s Noomi Rapace, alongside X-Men: First ClassMichael Fassbender, has taken an almighty £2.2 million during its opening weekend. Doing so has meant the film beat off its closest rival – Snow White and the Huntsman – by 319%.

Not only does this make Prometheus Ridley Scott‘s biggest opening weekend in the UK ever, but also meant that all of the IMAX showings in London and Manchester were sold out days in advance. As a result, Prometheus has beaten Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and James Cameron‘s Avatar for the most IMAX tickets sold in advance: 30,000 tickets sold for £470,977.

It has also been suggested that the midnight screening on Thursday night took in £200,000 on its own, making out for a very impressive and promising start for Prometheus. The question is, with reviews being mixed, whether the good streak will continue.

Prometheus is in cinemas now, and the trailer is below. Have you seen it yet? Let us know what you thought in the comments.
